Full Story:
My mom, Theresa Pendleton, was one of the kindest and most generous people I have ever met and this did not stop short with animals. Growing up with animals her entire life, she had an innate way of loving them unconditionally.
When I was hired to work in Bali, Indonesia for a year, my mom was fully supportive as she always was. After I moved to Bali and was beginning to get used to the new culture, the one thing I could never get used to was the sight of incredibly thin, hairless, and tick-ridden abandoned dogs in the streets. That's when I decided to begin volunteering for the non-profit organization Bali Dog Adoption & Rehabilitation Center (BARC). Their goal is to educate the locals of the need to sterilize, vaccinate, and provide for their animals and collect the resources and services necessary to achieve this, as well as to foster and re-home as many dogs as possible. My boyfriend and I not only helped BARC by fostering over 15 puppies, but we also made one of the best decisions of our lives by adopting a Bali Dog that now lives with us in the US today.
We were lucky enough to have my mom come visit us while living in Bali. While she was there, she was able to witness firsthand the harsh conditions that most dogs are subjected to due to lack of education and veterinary care. She too was heartbroken by what she saw and decided that she was going to help in the only way that she could at the time; by donating. After seeing with her own eyes the differences BARC was able to make with so little resources, she knew that she could help the dogs in ways that I could not. Theresa became one of BARC's largest benefactors, playing a vital role in the recovery and adoption of hundreds of Bali Dog's lives.
Please leave a donation in memory of Theresa Pendleton today. These donations will be going towards a special memorial for Theresa at BARC's sanctuary where hundreds of rescued dogs now reside, as well as several monkeys, pigs and horses. Also, for every $100 raised, the BARC team will be able to bring together a group of 50 children and educate them on the importance of sterilization as well as how to properly care for their animals.
In memory of a lovely lady. What a joy it was to be part of her world.
