On Sunday 18th September, I will be cutting my dreadlocks in order to raise funds for an exciting Indigenous Community project in the heart of Australia. The Walk-A-While Foundation supports Indigenous communities in Central Australia by educating and equipping young people with practical skills to make a meaningful contribution to their own community, and enable them to build careers.
Cutting my dreads is no small deal, after 8 and a half years of growth, it will be a sad farewell! (shocking almost!) ...but I really believe that this Foundation and the Raise the Cross project is worth raising money for, and worth chopping the dreads for!
The event will be held at the Community Church Hornsby Ministry Centre, Unit 4, 67-71 Jersey St, Hornsby, 2077 and will take place straight after the church service, so come along from 6pm for a great night! Supper will be provided!
One Indigenous Community project that Walk-A-While is supporting is the construction of a 20-metre-high cross in the Haasts Bluff Community in the Northern Territory. Building this cross is the dream of Outback indigenous leaders and reflects the culture, faith and creativity of the local community and Traditional Owners of the land. The elders of Haasts Bluff are Christian, and are now seeking financial and practical assistance from the global community to make their dream a reality - which will have a powerful spiritual and cultural resonance throughout Australia.
Please donate generously to this meaningful and exciting project.
Founded by world renowned photographer Ken Duncan, the mission of Walk-A-While is to walk alongside the indigenous people of central Australia, using the creative arts as common ground, providing youth with equipment and skills to tell their stories and to improve their future employment opportunities.
