Wow - Where do I start? I am both overwhelmed and excited to share this with you all.
If it wasn't for the Lyme Disease Association of Australia (Who work tirelessly to bring awareness to Lyme Disease in our country), and who also played such a crucial role in helping me seek correct diagnosis and appropriate treatment for this illness which is not recognised or treated freely in Australia - I am confident in saying that there is no way I would be at a functioning state today, both physically and mentally.
I presented with close to 40 symptoms after a tick bite on NYE, 2013. The decline of my health was rapid. Extreme fatigue, consistent muscle pain, severe joint pain, memory loss, blurred vision, brain fog - To name a few of my daily symptoms. In February 2014, I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease. This resulted in treatment that lasted 9 months, resigning from my then role as a stylist, and a recovery process that took almost 6 months or so after treatment in itself.
My successful recovery has given me a second chance at life - How can I not take action? It's time I gave back to the Lyme community and I need your help. I was extraordinarily lucky to have been diagnosed and treated immediately, with positive recovery results - I wish this for all suffering with this disease.
This 100km bike ride is a representation of positive thinking, determination, hope and strength in all forms. Please show your support by supporting me. In supporting me you are being a voice for all those suffering with Lyme Disease, for all those fighters who are not strong enough to stand up for themselves.
Lyme Disease is not a recognised illness here in Australia. Diagnosis and treatment is almost impossible to come by, with medical authorities not acknowledging patients presenting with Lyme or Lyme-like symptoms. The effects on those suffering are beyond devastating, as well as heartbreaking for their families, who are helpless in their search for answers and treatment.
I want to also say an enormous thank you to you all for the support over the last 2 years - Your encouragement went above and beyond. The road has felt uncertain and long - Thank you for helping me see it through <3
