About

My name is Neil Kalra, i'm 16 and am in Year 10 at Barker College.

This year, from December 3rd-24th, I will be going on a trip of a lifetime through the Global Immersion program, with students from all around Australia to visit the School of St Jude in Tanzania, East Africa.

The School of St Jude focuses on providing an education to the poorest of the poor primary and high school kids in Tanzania. The school's 3 campus' have about 2000 students in total, and cost about $5.4 million a year just to upkeep. Over 95% of the students pay zero fees to attend the school, as they simply do not have any money to put towards their education. Essesntially, this amazing school and it's 340 full time staff find those with nothing at all, and give them the opportunity to achieve greatness.

While in Tanzania, my group and I will participate in a massive range of activities that all centre around interacting with these people who lead a completely different lifestyle from my own. For example, I will be running lessons for a class of 30 students (or at least I'll attempt to!), co-ordinating a school athletics carnival, coaching sports, visiting the homes of the students and also I will be climbing Mount Killimanjaro with some of the kids. Mount Killimanjaro is Africa's highest point, at nearly 5.9km above sea level, and the climb will take about 6 days. I am sure it will be one of the most amazing experiences I will ever have in my life not just as an individual, but as a member of the Global Immersion family.

My individual goal before I depart for the trip, is to raise $1000 which will go straight towards paying for the tuition of a student of St Jude's, and the amazing thing is that I will actually get to meet the kids who's lives I am helping to change by helping them recieve an education. Any amount of money, big or small that you are willing to donate through this page would be massively appreciated not only by me, but by the Global Immersion staff who have so kindly put this trip together, as well as the kids themselves who are getting a helping hand in the most unimaginable of circumstances.

Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to The School of St Jude.

Thank you so much for any support you can provide and please share this with any of your family and friends!

Cheers,
Neil.
