Hi!! I'm Stef!!
On Monday 12 October (the start of Mental Health Awareness Week), I'm going to be physically silent for 24 hours.
Some of you may remember me doing this over the last 3 years, as part of the Zip It campaign. Well even though Zip It isn't running this year, that won't stop me!!
Suicide and Mental Health affect so many of us, in so many different ways.
Some of you may know my 'story'. I lost my father to suicide as young teenager, and then 10 years later, in late October 2012, I also lost my 17yo little sister to suicide.
I'll always miss, grieve, cherish, ache, remember and love my father Richard and gorgeous sister Tash.
It has and continues to be a traumatic time for my family. We fight, scream, cry and grieve together, and alone.
My hope in being silent for 24 hours is to raise the volume on mental health. Get people talking about it. The more we talk, the less the stigma.
I have chosen headspace for my charity (again!) because they provide so many amazing services to our societys young adults in need. They help to combat depression, anxiety, mental health, support with everything a young adult deals with in that turbulent stage of their life.
We need to look after the kids, so that they realise there are other choices than suicide.
So pull out your credit cards, or come and see me to drop off cash!!
I'd like to crack $2,000 again this year - and in return you get to see me try to communicate via mime on 12 October.
I promise you, it's quite entertaining! Last year's highlight was trying to explain something cute the bearded dragon had done the night before. It was like a game of charades!
Stef mimes beard *oh my god how can they not understand this is a beard??!*
Stef mimes fire breathing dragon *but can't you see the fire coming out of my mouth? What else breathes fire? And has wings?!*
Thanks all for your continued support, love you.
Stef
If you want to read any more about my story - here's one I wrote in May 2013.
It's a bit outdated now, but it essentially remains the same
