In 2014 my sister Becky was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Over the next twelve months Becky went through surgery and chemotherapy and is now cancer free.
Becky approached breast cancer like she does everything in life, with energy, positivity, passion and a sense of humor. She has been such an inspiration to me and I wanted to take on a challenge to recognize her and to help contribute to the battle against cancer. To do this I will be competing at Ironman Western Australia on December 6. This consists of a 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and a marathon.
Every day in Australia around 50 women like my sister are told they have breast or a gynecological cancer. Thanks to advancements in cancer research the five year survival rate for breast cancer has increased by 17% from 1982 to 2012.
By donating to this cause you are helping work towards better treatment and prevention, provide hope for more survivors and support for people diagnosed with cancer.
We are the peak national organisation for Australians personally affected by breast cancer. We work to ensure that Australians diagnosed with breast cancer and their families receive the very best information, treatment, care and support possible, no matter who they are or where they live.
