DIGGERS Military Motorcycle Club - VEGAS Chapter sponsor PTSD Assistance Dogs

The DIGGERS Military Motorcycle Club is a not for profit incorporated organisation made up of only serving and ex-serving members who share a bond of military service and motorcycles. The VEGAS Chapter, with members from Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast, is very passionate in supporting veterans and is conducting this fundraiser in order to raise money to rescue, pay for expenses relating to training and to sponsor a number of Young DIggers PTSD Assistance Dogs for veterans in need.

The Young Diggers Dog Squad rescues abandoned dogs from the pound and trains them up to become Assistance Dogs to support our serving and ex-serving Australian Defence Force members who are dealing with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD). This program helps more than just the individuals. The Dog Squad helps Defence families to better cope with the effects of PTSD and saves the lives of many rescued dogs.

Throughout this training program, which can take up to 1- 2 years, Young Diggers provides members with help and practical support to enhance the quality of life for both the dog and the individual. Either a foster carer will train and care for the dog until it is assessed and ready to be handed over to the veteran, or the veteran will take on the responsibility of training the dog which in turn gives him some responsibility and a reason to push on.

Our chapters intent is to raise $10000, being 4 dogs at a cost of $2500 each, present the money over to Young Diggers Dog Squad, continue to observe and support the dog that has been selected and sponsored right through until the dogs are handed over to the veteran.

Our soldiers sacrificed their time for this country and know it is our time to support them.
