Kevin was my good friend and colleague in the Fire and Rescue Service of W.A, who will be hugely missed by many. Just when things seemed to be falling into place for him he lost his long and hard fought battle with depression and PTSD, leaving so many heartbroken and in shock and disbelief.
In life he loved making people laugh, even at his own expense. His outward fun loving exterior hid his inner battle just below the surface. So many wish they could have done something to help, no more than me.
To honour Kev's life and to raise awareness for mental health I undertook a trek from Albany to Kalamunda on the Bibbulmun Track, a distance of 1002km in order to help others who are facing similar battles to Kev's. This trek celebrated his life and his chosen career where he saved lives and the legacy he leaves behind will continue to save many.
