As a youngster living in Townsville, QLD, a place not known for its wave quality and for what is predominately a lake even on its best days, Jade (Red) Wheatley would make the journey down to the beach board under his arm and paddle around in whatever mother ocean had to serve up. Whether it was howling 1 to 2 foot wind slop or in the aftermath of cyclone Tessi, his desire for waves was unrelenting.
That desire has never left him even after a life altering work accident robbed him of his legs at the tender age of 18! A time when most young men are carefree and abusing life for all it has to offer. "Blessed to still be alive", according to Red, he focused not on self-destruction as many would, but on the long and arduous recovery he faced to return to his one true love. The ocean and surfing...
Now at the age of 33 good fortune has revealed itself in the form of the inaugural world adaptive surfing championships to be held in September in the U.S at a break that Red has only dreamt of surfing called La Jolla, and what better a representative for our country and indeed for life in general could there be?
With a little help from others this dream is very attainable and truth be told Red won't be there to just make up the numbers! He is aiming to bring home silverware as an ambassador for Australia.
Please help Red achieve his lifelong aspiration to surf competitively against the best that this world has to offer by donating to this worthy cause, your support is much needed and appreciated... Thankyou
The aim friends is to raise funds to send Red, a team of athletes and support team to attend and compete for Australia in the first ever world adaptive surfing championships in La Jolla, California 22nd of September this year... and bring the title on home.
