4 years ago, myself & my husband travelled back to his birth place of Tanzania, Africa and I fell in love immediately with the people and the land.

I was so lucky to be able to experience this beautiful country. We travelled through the whole country by road and I was fortunate enough to experience the land and its people as a local, rather than as a tourist. . Along “Our African road trip” I danced with the masais, stood face to face with an elephant, carried water from the well, walked through the mountains in the pouring rain, watched a lion nurse her cubs and enjoyed so much more of this beautiful African culture. It was an amazing and life changing experience for me. We also visited many villages along the way and met so many beautiful people.
I was so touched to see the joy and happiness at each place we visited. I was welcomed with open arms and the people were so warm and friendly and most of all they were happy, even though many of them had so little.

This year we are travelling back to Tanzania as a family. My husband, my son and myself will be making the long journey from our little home in Perth, Australia to spend Christmas in Tanzania and we are really looking forward to it. Although we may not have all the luxuries of an Aussie Christmas, we know that life isn’t about its luxuries but rather what we make of what we have.

I have realised that in life we often seem to take so much for granted, many of us along with our children have the comfort of a warm bed at night, running water, constant electricity, and even the luxury of toys to play with. However in some of the villages many families have none of the basic comforts of life. Although we can’t fix everything one thing we can do as a group is put a smile on a child’s face. And that’s what I would like the PAPER BAG PROJECT to be about.

On our last trip I learnt that even though there was such a language barrier between me and a lot of the African children the one thing that helped us communicate was “PLAY”. PLAY is the international language that has no boundaries, no matter what language you speak or what corner of the world you come from, if you PLAY it all becomes one.

I would like to be able to take donations of items that MAKE A CHILD SMILE over to the villages in Tanzania this Christmas.

I have created a little project that I would like you to help me with, and I have called it “THE PAPER BAG PROJECT”
