Herdy's Frontyard Ultra was full of so many stories of inspiration this year. And one that stands out more than just about any other, was the inspirational feats of our mate Carla Delgado. Carla, at the beginning of lap 10, was unfortunately knocked over accidently by a spectator and had a pretty impressive wipeout. She dusted herself off, got back up and completed the lap (under cut off) and was determined to continue running another lap holding her arm up, only to (wisely) be stopped by her crew and friends. Unbeknown to Carla, she had done herself some pretty good damage, not only dislocating her shoulder, but breaking her collarbone too which has just seen her complete successful surgery in the past week. Sadly though, Carla is not a permanent citizen of Australia (yet) and was not eligible for medicare costs so has been left pretty heavily out of pocket after the surgery. Now we've tried to see if it is covered under the event insurance (which frustratingly it is not), so we are wanting to band together and call out to help where we can to cover or at least contribute to make things a little less stressful for Carla. Costs overall amounted to just over $6000 medical costs out of pocket for her (let alone time off work etc), so let's make a dent as much as we can to chip away at this.
Recover well Carla!
