About
Recently, my husband & I were told that his 2 year old nephew, Ebrima, has retinoblastoma in his left eye. It's an uncommon eye cancer that usually affects children 5 & younger. Treatment can be effective & children with retinoblastoma can be cured.
Ebrima is the youngest of 5 children & his family live in Gambia, West Africa. The poverty rate here is around 53% & the medical services can't be relied on. His parents need to take him to Sengal so he can receive much more reliable health care. His mum is a teacher who earns about $120AUD per month & his dad is a taxi driver who earns about $200 a month.
The problem is that not only is the medical attention that Ebrima requires costly but it requires prolonged stays in Senegal. He urgently needs an operation to remove his left eye, to prevent the cancer spreading from the eye to his brain & body. He will probably need chemotherapy as well. His parents need to pay for hospital stays, operation, medicine & treatment. For transportation & accommodation costs. Ebrima will require post-op check ups.
Money raised will help pay for these things & support the family whose income will drop throughout this time. Every dollar really does make a difference to this family & will allow Ebrima to have surgery sooner than later.
Contributions in international currency are welcome. Type your amount in AUD$ & it will be debited from your account in your currency.
