Kirsten is a bright 20 year old woman that was working full time while studying at uni. She has always loved art and designing new things, and is hoping to work as an architect in the future. But, at the beginning of this year, her life has come to a complete stop.
Kirsten has been diagnosed with severe endometriosis. It has left her bedridden with severe chronic pain, diarrhoea and nausea with no end in sight unless she is able to undergo a laparoscopy. Her single mum is unable to afford the procedure necessary to remove the lesions from throughout her body, as she is struggling to support her other children with the rising cost of living. Please help us pay for her operation to remove the endometrial tissue from throughout Kirsten’s body and allow her to try and live a normal life again.
A couple of months ago, Kirsten went to the emergency department with chronic abdominal pain, diarrhoea and nausea. She was told by the medical professions that it was Gastro, and was promptly sent home. A few days later, with symptoms worsening, she is taken to the hospital again. Tests are negative for stomach bugs, and the hospital staff give her opioids for the pain, a drip to hydrate her then send her home again. None of the pain medication works, and she cannot eat or drink without spewing. Within two weeks, she has lost 15kg.
Another trip to the hospital and several scans later, they still cannot find what’s wrong. Doctors recommend a colonoscopy and endoscopy, but due to the multi month wait for public healthcare, she is forced to go private. A few thousand dollars later, and with an endoscopy, colonoscopy and biopsy completed, and we are still at the same place with absolutely zero indication of what could be wrong with her, none of the tests came back with anything. The hospital staff say they cannot do anything for her, even though she is nearly constantly bedridden, vomiting and crying from the severe abdominal pain.
With no other options, we took it upon ourselves to see a private gynaecologist, and after testing, the gynaecologist is certain that she has an extremely severe case of endometriosis. He has booked her in for a laparoscopy as soon as possible to remove the endometrial tissue throughout her body before it continues to damage her internal organs, but we are unable to afford the procedure.
Kirsten is in so much pain constantly, and she feels like giving up. We have to help bathe her and feed her. This is no life for a 20 year old.
The public system has failed her and with the rising cost of living, we cannot afford to pay for her procedure.
Please help Kirsten live a normal life again.
Anything helps and all donations are greatly appreciated during this hard time. Thank you so much.
Wishing you a speedy recovery Kirsten
