On the 13th of October Rochester, Victoria was inundated by devastating floods and sadly our storage shed where we were storing all our household belongings and some personal belongings had meter high water inside and with that we’ve lost all our furniture, our sons toys, pram, BBQ, kitchen appliances, kitchenware, heater, toiletries, bedding, clothes, shoes, irreplaceable items, etc;. We had been storing everything in the storage shed for 7 months prior to the floods after becoming homeless and having to live in a small garage and multiple motels due to the rental crisis in our region, in which we have been unable to find a safe suitable rental for over 3 years. I have created this fundraiser to help my family replace some of the things we’ve lost as we were unable to find a company that would insure our belongings and due to us not physically residing within Rochester we were not eligible for Government funding and we need assistance replacing our belongings.

I haven't updated in a while as there had been no progress but finally I have a huge update and that is that we have finally been approved for a rental! Over the last few months we've been applying anywhere and everywhere as we weren't getting anywhere applying for properties in our local area, we are having to relocate a few hours away, this may not seem like a big deal to some but to Aaron and I who are both on the Autism Spectrum it's massive and terrifying, we won't have any friends, family or supports, we're also quite stressed about now having to replace our furniture and belongings that we lost in the floods with minimal funds.

Since our story was published by The Guardian we have received the Victorian state funding for flood victims, in addition to the state government funding we also received a small grant from The Salvation Army which was given to us a few weeks ago, the funding and grant is just the start of getting us back on our feet, we lost around $15,000 worth of belongings and we are very sadly still homeless and in need of a home, we are keeping on top of rental listing's and applying for anything and everything but to this date we continue to get knocked back again and again and this has been ongoing for just over 3 years.

This afternoon The Guardian published our story, check it out here https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2022/dec/01/homeless-family-who-lost-almost-all-their-possessions-in-victoria-floods-denied-relief-funds?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

Today we were interviewed by reporter Cait Kelly from The Guardian as she's working on a story about how people have lost their homes and renters have been kicked out and she believes that our family's story really illustrates how hard it was before the floods to get a place.
