Murwillumbah is still recovering from the 2017 flood that was supposed to be an unprecedented once-in-a-century event. The community believed it would never happen again in their lifetime. The February 2022 flood was one of the biggest in the Murwillumbah’s recorded history. Within two days, the town copped 777 millimetres of rainfall and the Tweed River rose six-and-half metres. Many people were left stranded for days and devastated in floodwaters with little to no internet or phone coverage. It will take months for the full scale of this disaster to unfold, to understand how many people have been displaced, how many homes destroyed.
We have set up this fundraiser to help and assist in the recovery of our devotee friends and family who live in this community and have been gravely affected by this monster flood. We are hoping that this fund raiser will help our devotee families who have been devastated by this event to get back on their feet again. We have identified about 10-15 families who will have to re-build from scratch and buy basic items like mattress, fridge, furniture, pay tradies etc. We have started this fundraiser along with our friends. This is not linked to any government agency or charity and the goal is to transfer the funds directly to our friends who are most needy of it to rebuild their lives. In consultation with our close friends (Senior Srila Prabhupada disciple) in Murwillumbah these funds will be distributed after proper due diligence.
This is an emergency and time is of the essence. Please give generously. And, please share this message with your networks of devotees and friends.
We are so grateful to each one of you for opening your hearts and helping our friends to rebuild their lives once again.
