Proposal for Floriculture in Future

Floriculture is one of the discipline under Horticulture dealing with cultivation of flowers and ornamental plants. The cultivation can be carried out in different forms that includes; bedding plants, house plants, flowering plants, green plants (indoor and outdoor) and propagated plants. In future, it has great importance in our daily life and national economy. Floriculture is a key assets to improve livelihood of potential youth, women and girls. It also serves a great value on creating beautiful surroundings (green landscaping) and also improving the socio-economic status of people. It can be also part to contribution in Royal Flower Exhibition which held annually in country. We plan to introduce exotic breeds, conservation of indigenous plants and ornamental plants to attract local and foreign tourist. Green landscaping with varieties of flowers and plants also boosts creativity, initiatives and also marketing opportunity to interested personnel. In future, we will also encourage growing and selling of flowers and ornamental plants. In our country, there is a lack of targeted initiatives to build national capacities to promote floriculture, landscaping, explore and develop the economic capability of floriculture. On the other hand, there is great demand for flowers throughout our country.

Reasons for Proposition:
1. Create market opportunity and an upper hand source of income for women and girls.
2. Build capacities in the field of floriculture.
3. Conservation of indigenous flowers and ornamental plants of the country.
4. Beautification of individual homes and surroundings.
5. Maintaining a green landscape.
6. Assists to our National Key Results Area (NKRAs) which is maintaining a healthy ecosystem.
7. It also contributes to Sustainable Development Goal (11) which states, '' Sustainable Cities and Communities''.
8. It will also partly serve as a recreational area for the public.

Expected Outcomes:
1. Livelihood source for women and interested groups of society.
2. Helps the economy of the country (source of domestic and foreign attraction).
3. Helps in the capacity development of the country.
4. Showcasing the beauty of floriculture.
5. Conserving indigenous flowers and ornamental plants.

Activities to be carried out:
1. Identification of land areas.
2. Land preparation for cultivation.
3. Accessories Procurement (tunnel house, seedlings, seeds, poly bags and others)
4. Training on cultivation, management on nursery and sanitation.
5. Study on plant introduction and acclimatization.
6. Landscaping within the project sites.
