Our mother means the world to us and is what we would refer to back in South Africa as “a tough cookie”. I know everyone faces their own set of trials and tribulations in life, but this woman, our pillar of strength, never makes a fuss about a single thing thrown her way. I can only speak on behalf of myself when I say this, but believe me when I say, she has faced more than her fair share of trauma in this life, more than most could deal with and still manages to be the positive ray of light that she is.
Two weeks ago I received an update from her regarding an ongoing condition she has had with her heart. This has been an underlying issue for a few years now, however due to the cost of treatment, she has unfortunately had to make do. Recently it has taken a radical affect on her day to day. She went from being a super active body, to bed ridden, due to the extreme fluctuations of her heart. This condition deprives the brain of oxygen at times and leaves her exhausted and in pain, with no energy at all. She is currently seeking treatment/advice at a public hospital in South Africa 100KM from where she lives. Unfortunately they are not equipped to help her with it being a state hospital. Our goal is to have her transferred to a facility that can treat her condition.
The last thing our mother would want is to be asking for a handout and it’s really the last thing we want to do as a family, but with COVID being in play for so long now, here we are, praying and wishing that by some miracle we can gather enough funds to get her the help she needs.
We do not have a great deal of knowledge in the area of treatment required and the associated costs, we’re told this could be in the extremely high thousands. In saying that, any possible assistance, no matter how small it may seem will go a long way towards her road to recovery.
We thank you so much for taking the time to hear our thoughts and hope with the strength of coming together, we can provide more assistance than we can alone.
Mum is out of hospital and was on medication for the past week until they have a solution to the heart condition she has. She has since stopped the medication though as it was causing a series of other side affects that were affecting her day to day living. For now doctors have advised her to keep going for checkups until they can come up with a treatment plan.
Mum wanted me to share thanks to everyone that has supported so far, she has entrusted me as the beneficiary of the funds for the page and I will arrange to send the funds to my family back home as soon as received. Again thanks for your support <3
I understand this issue, I am a mother of a teenager and I'm also healing my heart!
