My name is Mustafa and I’m an Afghani man who is grateful to be living safely in Australia.
In my home, tens of thousands of civilians have been displaced as a result of the spiralling violence and insecurity in Afghanistan, perpetrated by the Taliban.
My mother, my 15 year old brother and my 3 sisters (13,17 and 19 years old)are among them. My family are especially in danger because the Taliban has identified my connection to the US and Australian governments. They are in hiding and can't get out of Afghanistan.
I was born in Afghanistan and spent most of my life living and working there. For many years I worked for NATO and the US government, who were supporting the Afghani government in trying to restore peace.
In 2014, after receiving threats from the Taliban because of my work with NATO, I was kidnapped and put into a Taliban prison. I was lucky enough to escape but my father was not. After escaping, the Taliban killed my father, a civilian businessman with no connection to the government. I was able to flee Afghanistan and get a visa for Australia through my connection to NATO, but my family remained in Afghanistan.
With the escalating violence, I am extremely worried about my family. They are on the Taliban’s list and I don’t know how long they will be able to remain hidden. I acknowledge that my story is just one of many, many difficult situations but I am asking for your help.
I am fundraising in the hope to save my family, and securely move them to Australia where I’m currently living with my wife. I need to apply for Visas for my family, which will cost approximately $50,000 AUD. Any support that you can give would mean very much to me and my family.
