Alex's Guinea Pig Rescue

Alex is the perfect example of how one small act of kindness can turn into an incredibly impactful animal rescue. What started as a desire to help one guinea pig find a home quickly turned into seven, and today helps up to 250 guinea pigs at any one time find homes and refuge.

Alex uses the little resources that she has to help care for and treat guinea pigs up and down the Gold Coast. Dedicating years to providing healthier and happier lives to the many guinea pigs at the Guinea Pig Rescue, Alex has given so much to help them when others would not.

She’s overcome many challenges and obstacles to ensure that the guinea pigs that she takes in remain safe – even fighting against council inquiries and unkind neighbors to keep them protected at her home. She has supported her efforts to support her non-profit through garage sales, the sales of her pet food, and personal funding previously backed by multiple jobs.

Now, after spending an absolutely incredible amount of her own time ensuring that hundreds upon hundreds of guinea pigs found safe homes and were well-cared for a while at The Guinea Pig Rescue, Alex needs our help! She has sacrificed so much of what she has to create a better life for these animals.

Unfortunately, Alex is facing many different personal obstacles. Her health has been a source of stress as she has suffered from a brain bleed and other serious health related issues, but even as her health is suffering, she remains vigilant in serving the Guinea Pig Rescue. Her car is falling apart, and her home is in less-than-perfect condition.

You have the opportunity to help Alex and the Guinea Pig Rescue. Though she has spent many years helping these innocent guinea pigs, she has done so completely on her own, rarely asking for any help. Someone this kind deserves some form of kindness in return.

Your donation will go towards helping both Alex and the Guinea Pig Rescue. Here’s are some of the many ways your donations will help:

• New awnings to provide shade to the guinea pig housing.
• A water tank to supply water to the guinea pigs and their enclosures.
• Home improvements, such as resurfacing her driveway, which is currently made of mud. This makes it extremely difficult to use during the rain.
• Improvements to her van, which is experiencing many mechanical issues and hampering food pick up.
• Various other costs associated with the rescue and making Alex’s life more comfortable so that she can continue to provide care and safety to these animals.

Nothing has stopped Alex from being a champion for hundreds upon hundreds of guinea pigs over the years. Every obstacle that she has faced she has overcome, but that doesn’t mean things have gotten any easier. Alex needs our help, just like the guinea pigs need hers.
