Louisa Lawson was an early feminist and women's rights campaigner in NSW. Born in Mudgee NSW she founded The Dawn, Australia's first magazine devoted to women and women's issues, opened Australia's first refuge for women fleeing domestic violence and spearheaded the Suffragette movement in NSW. This Project is being coordinated by the Rotary Club of Mudgee to achieve a lasting recognition of her outstanding contribution to the women's movement with the erection of a beautiful statue in the Mudgee CBD.
Congratulations to all involved in this wonderful project!
