The Buchan community has been severely impacted by the 2019/2020 bushfires. It is incredibly traumatic for children and young people to be a part of a community who has experienced fire and then COVID. The Buchan Primary School would like to support their staff, students and community via the purchase of a wellbeing dog. This dog will arrive at the school as a puppy, and will be attached to an evidence based program that trains staff, students and the school community on how to build a successful school wellbeing dog. This dog becomes a staff member for the school to use with emotional regulation, classroom management and staff and student wellbeing. The benefits of having a wellbeing dog, after trauma, have been well evidenced. Training will be provided by a wonderful program called Dogs Connect, who have done this in other bushfire affected schools, including Clifton Creek Primary School. This program has proved very successful with these other bushfire affected schools in our region. Please help us achieve this goal for our school community and especially for our students!
Timberline staff would love to help see this puppy help all the kids @ Buchan. All the best with your new Puppy.
