Hi my name is Tina & I have Spina Bifida & Arnold Chiari Malformation type 2. These conditions have left me with medical issues that impact the quality of my life. I have had brain & spinal cord surgery that helped a little but also caused other damage. I also have a Pineal cyst in my brain causing issues. I cannot sleep laying flat due to the brain condition & have to try & sleep propped up with pillows which has added to the bulging discs in my neck. As you can imagine it’s very difficult to sleep like this & my sleep is very poor which affects my health & mental health. I also need height adjustable bed to transfer safely into wheelchair, my right side is paralysed. I have asked the NDIS to purchase a suitable height adjustable electric bed to suit my needs & they will not supply me with a suitable bed unless I contribute $900 which I do not have. Due to a brain leak & seizure earlier this year I have been confined to a wheelchair full time & have had to buy an electric wheelchair & pay for specialists which has unfortunately used up money I had saved up. I feel very upset & let down by the NDIS I know of other people who have been supplied $6000 beds & mine is $4000, I got a $2000 discount from supplier, there is so much inconsistency with NDIS. My occupational therapist has been fighting for me for months as I can’t do it anymore, I’m exhausted. I feel very embarrassed that I have to ask for help getting this bed in the first place & now I am forced to ask for help to help fund it from family, friends & people I don’t know which makes me feel even more embarrassed.
