This last Easter weekend I first came aboard Anthony Landgren's J70 yacht Spike with fellow crew mates Genevieve, Madonna, Anna and Crystal. I had a mere 12 hours sailing experience, and I was nervous at the challenge I had set myself to learn to sail. As a newly formed crew we competed in the inaugural 2018 Southern Peninsula J70 Easter Regatta from Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron, Melbourne. Since that weekend we have been training rigorously every Saturday to compete in the 2018 Australian Women's Keelboat Regatta at the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron, over the Queen's Birthday long weekend in June.
Through my participation in the Australian Women's Keelboat Regatta I am seeking to raise awareness and funds for PANDA - Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Australia, a cause that I am very passionate about after having first hand experience of the challenges and difficulties that Perinatal and Postnatal Anxiety and Depression bring.
About PANDA
PANDA – Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Australia is a specialist not for profit organisation that has helped tens of thousands of Australians get vital information and support for antenatal and postnatal anxiety and depression for over 30 years. PANDA supports women, men and families across Australia affected by anxiety and depression during pregnancy and early parenthood. PANDA operates Australia’s only National Helpline for individuals and their families to recover from perinatal anxiety and depression, a serious illness that affects up to one in five expecting or new mums and one in ten expecting or new dads.
About the REGATTA
June 2018 marks the 28th running of the Australian Women's Keelboat Regatta. Held annually at Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron in St Kilda over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend, the AWKR is a notoriously fun, often cold and always very competitive regatta. Over the past few years the AWKR has consistently attracted over 160 sailors and their supporters from across Australia and New Zealand. This year we aim to make the event bigger and better than ever… the Regatta aims to provide opportunities for all women to explore, participate in and thrive at competitive keelboat sailing.
