Laying in bed one morning when Richard handed me his phone and said we need to help this family……Wiped the tears away and got planning….
10 months later our boys rode a gruelling 1200kms raising awareness and funds for VWM disease. I couldn’t have been prouder of my hubby and his 20 riders, most who had never done anything like this before and some not having ridden a road bike ever! Us girls supported, cheered, motivated and held the household together but most importantly for me, I was truly inspired and wanted to do more.
I have been lucky enough to have met the Saxby family and, can I say, they are true champions…just when I thought my day to day jobs and issues were big they are nothing compared to challenges this family and others living with VWMD have to endure on a daily basis and sacrifices that are made are just so unfair.
Unfortunately, due to its rarity, there is no funding from the government or other major organisations, therefore, its on the families, their friends and the community. Its not fair to them or the fact that VWM only targets young children.
After our regular Saturday morning casual 5km walk and brekky four of us girls finally came up with an idea that was not only challenging to the mind and body but do-able for anyone who is wanting to help fight this disease.
100 km’s, 100 girls, $100K !! WHAT!!! YES its going to be tough, YES its going to hurt, YES I will have sore toes, feet, legs, butt and probably everything else but guess what…I will recover, I will get back to normal, I will get to go on a holiday, I will get to do the simple things in life that sadly Chloe and kids alike don’t get the privilege of doing anymore.
Please help us reach our target and spread the word.
My Personal target is $2000.
Congratulations babe, over $4000 for yourself and $110,000 for the team
