This October, I am tackling the Spartan Race - Bright TRIFECTA Weekend. Over two days, I will face 3 obstacle courses;
Day 1: 7km and 14km course Day 2: 21km course
Ever since I was pre-pubescent, I have been dealing with the demons of an eating disorder. It reared its ugly head most viciously between the age of 13 - 22. And it wasn't until I engaged in some self education and started talking to professionals about my disordered eating that I was able to silence the little devils.
Though I've been able to ease the bulimia and have had only a few episodes since then, the other versions of disordered eating make appearances all the time. This is in fact a constant battle. They often make their presence known when I am most vulnerable too! What jerks!!!
Being an emotional dis-ease, this has also triggered depression and anxiety to varying levels. Whilst, I haven't been clinically diagnosed as depressed, I have absolutely felt the black dog scratching at the door. And I have been working with my therapist, to implement strategies that allow me to keep these demons at bay.
Now, at 31, I am finally learning what it means to like myself; learning how to look in the mirror and not be disgusted at my reflection; learning how to be friends with food and in turn become friends with my body, I feel it's an important part of my journey, to help others who feel the same way, find their own path.
And so... I am raising funds for Beyond Blue and Eating Disorders Victoria, in exchange for putting my physical and mental tenacity to the test with the Spartan Trifecta Weekend. Follow my journey to get 'race ready' on my instagram;
