The Mane Event music festival is the brainchild of Jon Gilchrist and Tristan Gall from Geelong. After their own battles with depression and anxiety, Tris and Jon approached the Lions Club of Leopold with the idea of an annual music festival to promote awareness and provide information about mental health, for people suffering as they had. And so, The Mane Event was born to help fund and support mental health services for people in their community.
The festival now runs every October during Mental Health week, with a mission is to raise awareness and money for mental health services within the local community. Local and interstate musicians come together at the Barwon Club Hotel in South Geelong to celebrate music, local talent, and promote open conversation about mental health and suicide.
In 2014, the one day music festival, featuring the Painters and Dockers and some amazing local and interstate talent was a huge success, raising $2,000 for Beyondblue. In 2015 The Badloves headlined and raised $3,000 for Headspace Geelong! 2016 saw The Mane Event grow into a two day event headlined by The Black Sorrows and raising a massive $8,000 for Headspace Geelong.
Our focus this year is suicide prevention, and we would like to take a step further and make a $10,000 profit. Our Mycause target of $15,000 will help cover costs of the festival and hopefully with your help get us over the line!!
Most of us will experience a mental health issue at some time during our life, so please support this worthy cause, and make sure you come and enjoy the day!
Funds donated to the My cause Gift Fund will be disbursed to headspace Geelong. The trustees will always disburse funds to the nominated cause, however in the case that that is not possible, the funds will be disbursed to a DGR charity at the trustees discretion.
