Golden Wedding Anniversary

A few years ago, I found an opportunity to go overseas for a better future.

However, as an only child, I had to leave my parents back home in the Philippines and work on my dreams.

I regularly get to send them a monthly allowance for their household maintenance, and more importantly, their medical needs.

After all the expenses of utilities and other necessities are settled (both in Australia and Philippines), it's back to the same grind, day-in and day-out. And nothing much is left in pocket.

My parents are already retired, stay home most of the time and rarely go out to the town except when visiting the market and pharmacy.

I felt bad when I wasn't able to help them when their home was inundated by Typhoon Haiyan so now I want to come home to assist them and provide their needs.

And more than that --

Their 50th wedding anniversary is coming up in January 2016.

I would like to surprise them with a short visit starting on the 27th of December 2015 and just appear at our family home, to celebrate the holidays and be with them on their anniversary.

Then I would organize a an intimate but memorable anniversary lunch and dinner for them.

I've learned a lot of recipes and have improved my cooking skills while away from home, so I hope to make use of them to prepare good meals for my parents and our other relatives.

We would catch up on a lot of stories from the past years.

I hope to raise funds for my airfare and token gifts I can give to them on their anniversary.

It's nice to be able to talk on the phone weekly, but it's different to meet face-to-face and reminisce about the 'older' days and plan for the future.
