Dementia is the second leading cause of death in Australia and there is no cure.
There are currently 425,000 people living with dementia in Australia with a current cost to the economy of $14.67 billion.
Without a major research breakthrough that can prevent, delay or cure dementia, the number of people with dementia in Australia is set to rise to 1.1 million by 2056, with an estimated cost to the economy of $36.85 billion.
Dementia Australia provides leadership in advocacy, policy, education, services and research for people living with dementia and their families and carers.
We recognise the need to develop a better system of care and support for people with dementia and to advocate for these reforms in our communities.
We support social inclusion for people with dementia and are working to develop guidelines and standards related to the social and physical environments of dementia friendly communities and organisations.
