Reusy, more formally known as David Reus, a 32 year old guy from the Shire was a best mate to all. Dave loved the outdoors, swimming at the beach and pouring his own VB schooner on a Sunday afternoon with some mates at a backyard BBQ.

For the 6th year in a row, family and friends come together to participate in the Shark Island Swim event held at Cronulla Beach in honour of our Dave.

Dave was diagnosed at 32 with stage 4 Bowel Cancer in July 2018. Devastatingly, 5 months later he passed away after a courageous battle.

Bowel Cancer affects 1 in 13 Australians and is commonly known as an old person's disease. However the rates of young adults, under the age of 50 being diagnosed with the disease have been on the increase. Around 1600 young Australians are diagnosed with Bowel Cancer each year and 290 pass away.

Unfortunately, you are never too young to be diagnosed with Bowel Cancer.


By participating in this swim we are raising awareness for young people being diagnosed with Bowel Cancer. We want to help raise funds for Bowel Cancer Australia so young people can be diagnosed sooner and have a greater chance of survival.

What can you do to help?
If swimming isn’t your thing, we would love for you to sponsor us. No amount is too small. Every cent will go directly towards Bowel Cancer Australia so we can make a difference to young people diagnosed with Bowel Cancer.

Hi my name is Michael Wilson and I’m 33 years old 

The 12th of April I’ve set myself a goal to run 100km’s around a 400 meter athletics track, this will be equal to 250 laps. 

My goal is to raise money for Bowel Cancer as this is a cause that is near and dear to mine, and so many others hearts. 

After losing my beautiful Aunty Trisha to stage 4 bowel cancer in early 2024, I have felt the push to do what I can, to try to prevent other individuals and family’s to ever have to endure the same pain. 

The survival rate for stage 4 cancer is very low. And I know the pain I put myself through achieving this goal, will never be the same as what somebody battling cancer goes through.

I hope that what I’m doing can help make a difference, and help raise money for Bowel Cancer Australia.
