Water for Africa Inc. is a non-profit Christian organisation bringing relief to remote communities who suffer needlessly from a lack of access to clean water. Our current project region is in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania.
We tackle this problem ‘on the ground’. Put simply, we drill wells, install pumps and maintain systems in order to provide a sustainable water source and reduce the health risks associated with contaminated water.
Our in-country repair and maintenance team look after all our projects ensuring sustainability and a long life span. Statistics show that 45% of water wells are broken across Africa due to a lack of after care. Our team also repairs abandoned broken wells and then we adopt them into our program.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that diseases from unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. Preventable water related diseases kill more than 5 Million People every year.
Children are especially vulnerable, as their bodies aren't strong enough to fight diarrhoea, dysentery and other illnesses. 90% of the deaths that occur every week from unsafe water and unhygienic living conditions are children under five years old. 80% of sickness and death among children is caused by unsafe water. A child dies every 21 seconds from poor sanitation and water supply.
783 million people in the world do not have access to safe water. This is roughly one in eight of the world’s population. In Africa, two out of five people lack clean water.
Statistics do not begin to tell the whole story. Every person who dies is someone’s son, daughter, and brother, sister, mother or father.
Perhaps the most tragic thing of all is that these deaths are preventable.
Together we can make a difference, thank-you on behalf of these beautiful people in these remote villages :)
