Albany Community Hospice officially opened on 15 November 1990. It was the accumulation of the dreams and dedication of many community members which resulted in possibly the first free standing day hospice in Australia that was totally owned and funded by the people.  

	From humble beginings, today Albany Communitiy Hospice is an 8 bed hospital providing person-centred care in a home-like environment to those with a life limiting illness in our community. 

	Thanks to the ongoing generosity of the community, we have been providing care for free for over 30 years. 

	Albany Community Hospice is the only community run Hospice in Western Australia and funds raised go directly to Hospice to fund the gap in our funding.

Ewen (Ewey) Batten lived with illness and after giving it his all, was welcomed to the Albany Community Hospice. Albany Community Hospice provides palliative care to enable loved ones to live every moment in any way important to them and their family.

Ewey received exceptional care and treatment, and his family and friends were given the most special opportunity to spend his last days together in peace. The staff were compassionate, respectful, supportive and devoted to ensuring our Ewey was comfortable and went to extraordinary lengths to help our family create their final special memories for which we are very grateful for.
