One Heart

One Heart is a not-for-profit foundation that was established in 2007 out of Australia and working in Kenya and Uganda. One Heart’s primary focus is to change the future of orphaned and abandoned children living in poverty in Kenya, and in turn see whole communities transformed through education, leadership, empowerment and most importantly – love.

We now care for 150 children in our care and operate own own primary and secondary schools, as well as a skills training centre to help better equip the surrounding community in health, business and life skills training. We have set a series of goals to impact on a wide variety of people, all aimed at improving the living conditions and future of the next generation.

Our goals:

Empowering local Kenyans and Ugandans to address the social challenges that face their communities.
Providing an environment for the ‘forgotten’ children to flourish.
Provide unique opportunities for individuals and companies here in Australia to improve the lives of vulnerable children in a sustainable way.

In order to achieve our vision of breaking the poverty cycle, we have established a model based around 4 key pillars:

Care – It’s all about the children. Orphaned and abandoned children need an encouraging family environment to flourish. That’s why we’re creating a series of family homes, and providing holistic care to each child to ensure they have every chance to become the leaders of tomorrow.

Education – Education is the key to breaking the poverty cycle. That’s why we are building schools and forming alliances with local universities to provide a high quality education to disadvantaged children. We have a particular focus on I.T, sports, music and art.

Sustainability – Sustainability is critical to see long term change. That’s why all of our projects have a focus around financial, social and environmental sustainability.

Social Impact –We want to improve the quality of people’s lives in both Africa and Australia. By creating opportunities for individuals and companies in Australia to connect with One Heart, we provide a direct link for them to engage in a bigger cause, and create a genuine legacy.
