The parents of a nine-month-old baby are willing to go as far as sacrificing their family home to save their little girl's leg.
Born with a rare limb deficiency called Fibula Hemimelia on her right leg, which means she is missing a fibula bone, Sophia Jans' only option for treatment in Australia is amputation.
But this wasn't a good enough alternative for Christian and Carley Jans of Wollongong, south of Sydney, who have already been through many tragedies in the past few years.
While the parents-of-four deal with the financial burden of a house fire where they virtually lost everything two years ago, and the added stress of losing twins in 2009, they have issued a desperate plea to help raise funds for Sophia's limb reconstruction that can only be done in the US.
The operation itself will cost more than $250,000.
