MEDIA: Love Your Sister Family Fun Day

Marking the five-year anniversary of Connie Johnson’s passing, and building upon the remarkable success of the Love Your Sister cancer charity she founded with her brother, the organisation is holding a Family Fun Day fundraising event this September.

Canberrans are invited to join together in a day of celebration and fundraising – and 100 per cent of all donations will go directly to medical research. With live music, food trucks, market stalls, a petting zoo as well as games it will be a hugely enjoyable day out for people of all ages.

Connie Johnson had a long battle with cancer throughout her tragically shortened life. She was affected by bone cancer at age 11, uterine cancer at 22, and diagnosed with terminal breast cancer at 33. She passed away at the age of 40.

Teaming up with her brother, actor Samuel Johnson, Connie founded Love Your Sister in 2012. They aimed to raise $10 million for cancer research. At the time of Connie's passing, they had raised almost $6 million! The day before Connie died, she was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for her service to those with breast cancer.

To date, Love Your Sister has raised almost $17 million through a range of fundraisers, big and small. As Her Canberra puts it, “...Samuel Johnson will never stop fighting to stop other families from facing the gaping hole that Connie has left in hers…”

The Love Your Sister family Fun Day will take place at the Lyneham Netball Courts, Canberra, on Sunday 11th September from 10-3 pm.
