As the state of Kyiv and Ukraine continues to worsen, many countries around the world are taking a stand to show their support to the war-torn nation.
Looking for a way to help and support Ukraine? Here are ways that Australians are giving back to Ukraine crisis during this devastating time.
Fundraise for someone in Ukraine directly affected by the Russian Invasion
Stefan is a renowned filmmaker whose grandparents were born in Western Ukraine.
In 2015-2018, he filmed two documentaries about Ukrainian mothers who were affected by the Russian-Ukraine conflict in Donbass.
Galina is one of the mothers whose son tragically passed away due to the conflict. Since her loss, Galina was inspired to create Ukraine's largest volunteer center called Prival, which provides passing soldiers with food, shelter, shower, and basic necessities.
Stefan has set up a fundraiser to help Galina and her team continue to provide food, clothing, tools, car repairs and general items to help Ukrainians retain their freedom and right to live in peace.
An urgent community fundraiser was created for Melbourne-based parents, Jess and Kevin, who are currently in Europe fighting for the safety of their baby girl Alba in Ukraine.
In a matter of days, the mycause fundraiser has raised $56,700 with over 968 donors across Australia.
Baby Alba is Jess and Kevin’s genetic baby. She started as an embryo in Australia and was then transferred to a surrogate mother in Ukraine.
Alba is in NICU at a hospital in Kyiv and her parents are desperate to rescue her and take her to a neighboring country to get the urgent medical care she needs.
The couple’s good friends, Sarah and Kara started a fundraising page to help raise enough funds to cover the financial strain of making their way to Ukraine at this critical time.
“We know accepting money does not come easily to Jess and Kev, but under these extraordinarily exceptional circumstances, easing the financial burden of the multitude of unforeseen costs that are a direct result of the war in Ukraine, will go a long way to helping their little family,” says campaign creator Kara.
Fundraise for a charity that provides direct aid to Ukraine
Two non-for-profit organisations, the International Association of Human Values Australia and Art of Living Foundation Australia have rallied together to fundraise for humanitarian relief for Ukrainian refugees.
Both organisations care for communities that are affected by trauma and distress due to civil catastrophe.
Over 150,000 refugees have arrived in Poland and hundreds of thousands more refugees are expected over the coming weeks.
In collaboration with the Polish Art of Living Center in Tarask, the fundraiser will fund trauma relief and mental health programs once the refugees are settled.
