MEDIA: Getting Rally Ready for Fundraiser

Fundraising for the Riverina Charity Rally

Leigh Murphy and Steve Wilcox are preparing for their second year driving the Riverina Redneck Rally this March.

The two men, from a rural township outside of Geelong, took part in the Rally last year and raised $60,000.

They aim to raise that much again.

“Before we’d raised that, the record by any team was $50,000 and this has been running since 2017,” Murphy told Golden Plains Times.

Sent Pack’n is already topping the leaderboard, having raised over $51,000 so far this year.

The Riverina Redneck Rally charity event is a 5-day drive filled with lots of fun activities along the way as teams of around 70 to 80 cars fundraise for Country Hope.

“It’s not a race or anything, just a casual group drive where we fundraise the whole time.”

Murphy and Wilcox, calling their team Sent Pack’n, have recruited their partners for this year.

Sim Rumlera and Jacqui Wilcox will make up Double Bubble and the foursome are combining their donations.

They are fixing up and equipping a Holden Adventurer to join in.

“We’ve still got a couple months to go on our car, from start to finish,” Rumlera said.

She said she was excited to participate in the fun this year.

“I’m really looking forward to getting the car on the road, meeting new people and spending time with the boys.”

To help the team make their fundraising target, donations can be made here.

Country Hope is a country-based, family-centred support organisation for children diagnosed with cancer and other life threatening illnesses.
