EOFY Fundraising and the Pandemic

EOFY Fundraising

Fundraising with mycause has seen significant growth this past financial year after the pandemic broke out in Australia in February 2020. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of everyday Aussies and organisations, worthy charities and thousands of individuals were supported with fundraising.

An enormous $24.5 million was raised this Financial Year despite the hardship most Australians faced with job losses due to the pandemic.

We take a look back at some of the most successful campaigns from the 2020-2021 financial year.

Matched Giving Days

Matched Giving Day campaigns have been increasingly successful as events went virtual with the rise of the pandemic. The growing popularity of pandemic giving days gave these fundraising charity events a crucial boost.

Give Share Care

The Give Share Care campaign, hosted by St Kilda Mums, Eureka Mums, and Geelong Mums, brought together many groups of team and individual fundraisers.

Donations were generously matched by various corporations and organisations, including zendesk, L'oreal Australia, an arm of the Lord Mayor's Charitable Fund, and the Bentleigh Morrabin Central Rotary Club.

Working together, #givesharecare raised an incredible $1.5 million! The money raised made a huge difference for vulnerable young mums and families across Victoria.

The funds will also help the organisation with thier ultimate goals of reaching every Victorian child under six, and sharing their services beyond Victoria.

Flying Doctor Day

Flying Doctor Day was the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Western Australia's first ever Matched Giving Day.

Corporate partnerships with Rio Tinto, CBH Group, and igo were leveraged and community donations were matched dollar for dollar.

A key component of Flying Doctor Day's success were the beautiful graphics used which were inspired by the Western Australia landscape and native animals.

Flying Doctor Day raised over $620,000 for regional emergency and medical services across the state.

The funds raised help with the vital work Royal Flying Doctor Service do caring for the rural communities of Western Australia.

Peer-to-Peer Fundraising

Peer-to-Peer fundraisng events are also making a lasting cause-related impact. During lockdowns, events went virtual. However, between lockdowns, people were excited to get out and about, especially to get together for a cause.

Soup & Sleep

Café Outside the Square’s major annual fundraising event, Soup & Sleep, was another great success this financial year. The not-for-profit community café supports Adelaide's homeless, underprivileged, and marginalised.

Donors and fundraisers gather at the Freemason's Hall for food cooked by iconic local chefs, entertainment, stories of surviving hardship, and then sleep rough under the stars in the carpark. Supported bby peer-to-peer fundraising, the event raised $154,203 to help continue to feed and support locals experiencing homelessness and poverty.

Ladies Who Jump

The Ladies Who Jump initiative saw a group of women do a skinny dip challenge into the icy waters of Tasmania mid-winter! The 26 women are friends and clever enough to also organise champaign for the event. Individuals could join the jump or sponsor a lady.

The nude charity swim raised over $120,000 for MONA’s 24 Carrot Garden Project supporting disadvantaged school children and eduacting them in healthy eating and living.

Individuals Fundraising for Charity

Individuals fundraising for charity has continued through the pandemic as everyday Australians do their bit. Thousands of Aussies cycled, swam, and even skydived for a cause they were passionate about in the  financial year 2020-21.

Miles for Smiles

Jack Whelan cycled 2017km in 13 days to raise money for two charities close to his heart. Leaving from Warrandyte, east of Melbourne, he rode his push bike all the way to Noosa in Queensland! Each day's journey averaged a little over 155km. That's more than the Tour De France which is 152km.

He set himself a goal of $50,000, shared the story about why these two charities and the ride were so important to him, and connected with his friends. Jack's Miles for Smiles campaign smashed it's target and raised more than $120,000 for Multiple Sclerosis Limited and Outside the Locker Room.

Personal cause fundraising

Jump In and Swim for Bondi

9-year-old Bondi completed an amazing 210km swimming challenge to fundraise for kids like her living with Juvenile Arthritis. Bondi acheived double her goal amount, raising over $20,000 for Juvenile Arthritis Foundation Australia.

The monumental fundraising milestones this financial year are a testament to the compassion of Australians. Many are lending a helping hand to those who need it the most, especially during this pandemic.

At mycause, we will continue to empower the voices of the change-makers and charities who are making a difference one fundraiser at a time! Read here to understand why Australian fundraisers choose mycause.
