Last October, Echuca Neighbourhood House established a dedicated Flood Recovery Fund to help the community of Echuca after the October 2022 Floods.
ENH is a not-for-profit community organisation that helps the Echuca-Moama and surrounding communities with programs, services, and fundraising activities.
The Flood Recovery Fund was created tspecifically o support individuals and families directly affected by the devastating flooding late last year.
This month, the Order of the Eastern Star donated $3000 towards this ENH flood fund. The money was a combined donation from the Brighton, Nepean, Williamstown, and Box Hill chapters of the order.
Order of the Eastern Star past worthy grand matron, sister Sandra Walker, said the ENH flood recovery fund was chosen because ENH ensures 100 percent of the funds go to the people that need it.
“We wanted the money to go straight to those who needed it and we wanted the organisation that we donated to to have a process for checking whether the people asking for money were real flood victims,” Walker said. “ENH does that".
ENH treasurer, Cheryl Russell, told Shepparton News and Riverine Herald they were extremely grateful for the generous donation.
She explained ENH does more than simply disburse funds. They also work with individuals and families directly to ensure they understand what help is available and feel comfortable receiving assistance.
“A lot of people won’t put their hand up for help because of pride or because they think there are others worse off than them,” Russell said.
“We do have a designated staff member who can run through all of the options with the person in need.”
