When a family member or friend suddenly falls ill or has an accident, extensive medical equipment is often needed to help them recover. It can be difficult to know how to help - medical bills can quickly build up and the pressure to pay can place additional stress during an already traumatic time. Many people are turning to online fundraising as a way to alleviate that financial strain while also giving friends, family and the community a way to show their support during a difficult time.
12 year-old Samantha was born with an incredibly rare genetic disorder, confining her to a wheelchair and leaving her heavily dependent on her parents. Samantha can’t walk, talk or hold herself up. Devoted parents Ray and Samira work night and day to give their daughter the best life possible.
As Samantha grows, the strain of lifting her in and out of their station wagon is too much for Ray and Samira. The family decided to create a crowdfunding campaign to fundraise for a wheelchair accessible car for Samantha, making it much easier for the family to travel and spend time together outside of the home. Over $14,000 has been raised to date for the family.
When young parents Kate and Tim found out that they were expecting another child, they were delighted. The excitement soon turned to planning, with a fundraising campaign created to purchase a special pram/wheelchair buggy for the upcoming baby and older sister Olivia.
4 year-old Olivia was born with Kleefstra Syndrome (KS), a spontaneous genetic mutation. As a result, Olivia is non-verbal, is easily overwhelmed and has just begun to walk.
The campaign’s target of $9000 was not only achieved but exceeded, with $10,780 raised with the young family.
Emma’s father Brendan is undergoing an aggressive battle with Parkinson’s Disease, recently resulting in the family placing Brendan in an aged care facility. Brendan is now unable to walk, feed himself or dress himself and living with agonising pain each day.
The family launched a crowdfunding campaign for a tilt in space manual wheelchair. This wheelchair would give Brendan more comfort and freedom, with the ability to be transported to appointments and visit his family at home. Thanks to the incredible generosity of family and friends, the family raised over $10,000 to purchase the custom built wheelchair.
If you want to help a friend with special needs or support a family member as they struggle to afford medical equipment, then you can start a fundraising campaign to raise money for a wheelchair or crowdfund for mobility equipment.
