Donna’s campaign was created by her close friend Debbie, to raise funds for Donna’s apartment. Donna was born with Muscular Dystrophy, and can only move in a wheelchair. As a result, it was incredibly difficult for Donna to get into her bathroom each day without having to drag herself there from her wheelchair.
Multiple Photographs
Debbie uploaded multiple photographs of Donna with friends, family and by herself to help potential donors get a better understanding of who Donna really is. The photographs are bright, clear and show Donna in different settings, both with and without her wheelchair.
A detailed story
Debbie also told potential donors all about Donna’s story, explaining how the funds would be used to improve Donna’s quality of life while also talking about Donna’s current situation.
“To have a shower Donna must get onto the floor and crawl into the shower, then crawl back into her bedroom and pull herself up onto her bed,”said Debbie on the mycause campaign.
“Donna needs a bathroom renovation to give her a wheelchair friendly shower that would allow her to shower without anxiety and the worry that she can’t get off the floor.”
By explaining just how much of a struggle it is for Donna to even access her bathroom, the information Debbie provides has more context. This also makes Donna’s story more emotive, giving readers a chance to connect with Donna’s story and potentially become donors.
Local media interest
Donna’s story also gathered local attention, with her story featured in the Mordialloc Chelsea leader. The article gave Donna’s cause further attention in her community, with people both near and far offering their donations to help Donna get the bathroom she dearly needed.
All of these elements combined meant that Donna’s initial target of $14,500 was not only met but exceeded, with over $21,369 raised in total donations.
