Classmates rally for brave little Lachlan
WHILE Worrigee’s Lachlan Thoroughgood is at Randwick Children’s Hospital being treated for cancer, his school friends at St Michael’s in Nowra have not forgotten him.
The six-year-old was diagnosed only last month with a malignant brain tumour and his parents Leanne and Nathan are now by his side as he undergoes radiation treatment and chemotherapy.
Lachlan’s teacher, Amanda Lloyd, is leading the class in raising money for the family while sharing information and awareness about childhood brain cancer.
Ms Lloyd is among a group of family friends who have decided to run a half marathon at the Sydney Running Festival on September 21.
“I will be doing the run dressed as a princess,” she said.
“But what is so fantastic is Lachlan’s good friend Ben Le will be doing the four kilometre bridge run with his family to help raise money as well.
“The children in Lachlan’s class have really felt his absence, so I got the class involved in the Monkey In My Chair program.

“The monkey mascot we have in the classroom is the same as the one Lachlan has with him at the hospital. It is a way for the children to stay connected.”
Monkey In My Chair was developed for children who are away from school because of a cancer diagnosis.
Through the program, each child is provided with a monkey kit which includes a stuffed monkey, which Ms Lloyd’s students decided to call Mr Peabody.
“They are a close class,” Ms Lloyd said.
“For them to do something to support Lachlan’s recovery is important to them.”
Best friends Jye Sloane, Wil Bruce and Jennifer Stoekle said they are missing their friend, but are doing their part to help look after Mr Peabody as well.
A fund-raising night for Lachlan’s family will be held on Saturday, November 8 at the Bomaderry RSL Club. Tickets are $45 and can be booked by calling Rachelle on 0434 983 151 or the club on 44 21 4888
