JAMIE Milne is on a mission that would make even the most dedicated fitness fanatics sweat.
Along with two mates, the Cairns personal trainer and cross-fit enthusiast is taking on the ultimate in endurance, a 10km burpee marathon that will see them burpee their way through four lengths of the Cairns Esplanade.
The burpee is a full-body exercise, with the basic movement including a squat, push-up, squat and jump sequence.
The trio has labelled the challenge the “Burpee Ten Thousand” and are taking part to raise money for the Black Dog Institute, which helps those suffering mental illness.
“We’re trying to raise a few dollars, but most importantly we are raising awareness,” Milne said.
“I’ve been through the trenches of mental illness and come out the other end – and we know others in the community have too.”
As a regular ultra-marathon competitor – and having previously run the length of New Zealand twice – Milne is no stranger to extreme fitness events.
But Mr Milne admits he is phased by this challenge.
“I would honestly say I am genuinely nervous and concerned, but I guess it will be character-building,” he said.
“We are planning to start at about 5am and expect to finish 24 hours later.”
Milne and his friends will undertake their challenge on January 31 and they “would genuinely and sincerely love some support”.
They will be on the Cairns Esplanade from 5am.
