Our own 5 year old fighter has returned to her home in St Helens briefly, after 9 months of residing between Hobart and Melbourne while battling her Melladullablastoma (Brain Tumour).
Even after 2 surgeries, six weeks of radiation and 4 months of chemotherapy, our beautiful, brave girl kept achieving and kept fighting even though all she wanted in the world was to go home.
Once Sharlette did finally return home, she didn't settle in for the long recovery she faces, instead she walked proudly and excitedly through the school gates to enrol for prep this year!
Sharlette's courage and fighting spirit has not gone unnoticed by local community members. In fact, an invitation from Dale Richards at the fire station offered Sharlette the opportunity to meet the team and inspect the trucks. This invitation was of course met with an enthusiastic "Yes please!" and within 24 hours the community had rallied and presented Sharlette with a spectacular show of rescue procedures and she took pride of place in leading a long convoy of service vehicles through St Helens, lights flashing and sirens blaring all the way. https://www.facebook.com/sthelensfirebrigade
This brave girl's continued wish, through all her upheaval, was to go home and to get a puppy named Max.
So as a special surprise, while Sharlette is in Melbourne in February for more surgery and tests, mum Cassie has organised to go and meet a new litter of Havanese puppies to see if Sharlette can find her Max.
With much effort, strenuous budgeting, continued support and the generosity of you all. We hope to have Sharlette return home, cancer free and with a new companion to help her finally recover from this year of fighting.
Dear Sharlette, We wish you all the very best brave girl! From Anna, Andrew and the rest of the team at East Coast Veterinary Clinic
