Armadale Matters is an online independent community news and information site for the Minnawarra ward and the broader City of Armadale council area. Our contact phone number is 08 63160454
In Australia, local government areas consist of city wards, and the Armadale city centre area is part of the Minnawarra Ward.
Minnawarra Ward covers the suburb of Armadale, including the city centre and surrounding suburbs of Brookdale, Wungong and Hilbert.
Who we are:
We are a non-party political, independent, grassroots community-based group of ratepayers, residents and interested parties working to promote the unique character and the attractiveness of the Minnawarra Ward within the City of Armadale.
Our Vision
To promote the development of an environmentally healthy, attractive and well-maintained local area and community with the help of a transparent and accountable local government.
The Minnawarra Ward
The Minnawarra Ward is both the visual heart and the physical centre of the local government area known as the City of Armadale.
From the outside look, everything about our City is seen through a lens that focuses primarily on the visual appearance of our city centre and nearby localities.
When people negatively refer to Armadale, they most likely mean what they see in Armadale and not the outer suburbs of Roleystone, Bedfordale, Mt Nasura, Piara Waters and Haynes.

And while it is essential to promote our wider community by promoting our beautiful tourist attractions, it seems that so much could be done by fixing the prominent issues in Armadale itself.
A residents' web-based organisation is a starting point. It would help us as ratepayers, residents, business people and other interested parties to work together and represent and promote our local community.
Our role
In summary, the primary roles of this group are to:
First, to provide a website where interested parties can provide materials, resources, and information about local issues or promote services or ideas that affect the Minnawarra ward's amenity about Council managed facilities, council management of ratepayer compliance.
Advocating Council for development, improvement and compliance with standards of both Council-owned and ratepayer-owned facilities.
Seeking Council transparency in its planning and operational decision-making, so Minnawarra Ward ratepayers are informed and involved in decisions affecting the ward.
Our aims for the first year
To establish this website as a viable source of information for the community of Minnawarra Ward.
To publicise the website with local businesses, community clubs and groups, and sporting groups, which in turn will provide contact information, newsletters or opportunities within the Minnawarra ward.
To investigate and encourage the creation of the Armadale Matters Progress Association, provide information on its activities, and provide it with a website to promote itself.
To meet with and encourage the City of Armadale to load resource information to the website.
Advocating the provision of training materials or seminars to all citizens willing to learn to become councillors, not just presently only available to elected councillors. Hence, the councillor's duties, responsibilities, and decision-making process are open.
Services for Community and Sporting groups
Armadale residents can find a list of community and sporting organisations within the City of Armadale by searching the website https://www.mycommunitydirectory.com.au/, in the section for Armadale Community Directory, which the City of Armadale is supporting.
People have to make a lot of effort to find these organisations since they have limited updated contacts, no information on what they do for the community, how many grants they receive, and their constitutions are not visible. So, Armadale Matters will encourage greater use of the community directory and publish more up-to-date information for clubs in the Minnawarra Ward. Ph: 0863160454
Armadale Matters supports Community and Sporting Groups and Clubs in the following areas.
Encouraging local sporting and community clubs to develop governance, management, and welfare skills through adopting the guidance provided by the Department of Local government, Culture and Sports. Running your club | DLGSC
We advocate for Sporting clubs within the Minnawarra Ward to Council for the provision of or improvements to sporting facilities club administration practical help.
Advocating for the traditional owners so that their language, stories, and culture are recognised and celebrated. In doing so, Armadale Matters will seek to draw on the knowledge of first nation community members by providing a web page on which their knowledge can be made available to the local community.
We advocate for Council support to volunteer community organisations by providing those organisations with free or at-cost facilities and support.
Facilitate multicultural communities' integration into the workforce by promoting employment or volunteering opportunities through local community organisations.
Provide access to information for the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) community to learn and understand the governance system of local government.
