Craig Buchanan - Independent Candidate for Rockingham

I'm tired of watching both major parties underserve the people of Rockingham, and ignore their concerns. This has never been clearer than in the commitment of both Labor and the Liberals to build a canal based housing estate on reserve land at Point Peron in spite of prolonged protest from a range of local individuals and groups. That said, the same habit of fobbing off local voters can also be seen in terms of job creation (where both parties spout numbers, but refuse to talk about specific job plans in a local context), law and order (with victims all too often suffer as much as, if not more, than the criminals who target them), and inward investment (Labor won't commit money to Rockingham because they don't think they need to, and the Libs won't commit it because they don't think it will do them any electoral good). The only way to break the cycle, and to deliver real, interactive representation is to elect a local independent candidate.

A vote for Craig Buchanan is a vote to:

• have Landcorp cease any and all canal development plans at Point Peron.
• back the creation of a world-class Coastal Marine Park at Point Peron to attract tourism and jobs into our local community.
• back the building of a marina at Wanliss Street to provide 500 new berths for local boat owners, feeding in to the foreshore and to local business.
• lobby to have a new Defence Hub located in Rockingham, servicing both Garden Island and our shipbuilders in Henderson.
• commit more resources to our local police stations.
• move to begin work on the Outer Harbour, not just talk about it.
