If your children have ever experienced the joy of a camel ride throughout Adelaide, including along Victor Harbor beach, it was most likely lovingly provided by the Austin Family, the owners and operators of Healy's Camel and Pony Farm on Kangarilla Road, in Adelaide's South, who have been in operation for over 35 years.
Tragically, on saturday 7/1/2023 Alyesha Austin, two of her children and her mum Lyn were involved in a head on collision on Victor Harbor Road. Thankfully the children walked away physically unharmed, unfortunately though both Alyesha and Lyn are facing very lengthy recoveries as they mend and heal from severe injuries, with Alyesha still in a critical condition in an induced coma in Flinders Hospital. Having sadly lost Alyesha's father only a few short months ago, and with Reegan, Alyesha's husband, busy caring for their five children, as Alyesha recovers in hospital, they have no means for an income and still need to tend to the farm and their remaining camels, as they sadly lost two in the accident.
This is a family that has bought so much joy to the community and to the lives of our children offering such a wonderfully unique experience in their camel rides. It's understandable times are tough right now for many families, however if everyone can chip in, even the smallest amount, we can not only help this family through tough times, but we can help to keep a joyful and fun community event up and running so children (and adults) can enjoy it for years to come ❤?
Our thoughts & prayers are with you all. Aleysha was primary teacher to our 2 kids in Leigh Creek & a much loved member of the community there. We pray for a speedy recovery. X
