Announcement 31/05/2020:
Dear friends,
Our deliveries ended this week and so too will our fundraising efforts as Australia has managed to limit the spread of the virus.
A big heartfelt thanks to all who have supported, shared and donated.
Stay safe.
Hana and staff.
--------------------------------------
Hi, I’m Hana and for over twenty years I have run the Moroccan Soup Bar which has become a community institution. To help reduce the spread of COVID-19, I closed my restaurant a month ago, including take away (as much as I love my customers, I don’t want them risking their health by standing in queues and adding pressure to the health system – nor do I want to risk the health of our workers). So I turned all our effort to support those that are risking their lives to help our community during this crisis. Even though we must be physically isolated, we can still work as a community to help each other. Here’s what I’m doing and I hope you will join me…
In the next few months, our health system is going to be under unprecedented pressure and our front-line medical workers are going to bear the brunt of the load. They will finish their days physically and emotionally exhausted – but they will keep turning up because that is what they do and that is who they are…to serve us, their community.
To thank them, I want them to receive a healthy hot meal from their community at the end of each shift – to send them home each day knowing that we care and appreciate what they are doing for us.
I am kicking off this initiative by preparing cooked meals for our health workers at St Vincent’s and Royal Melbourne Hospitals. Each meal is prepared and delivered in line with strict Covid-19 food handling and delivery processes (visit our Facebook page for a video on how we do this) at a bare minimum (i.e. no profit) cost of $12.50.
I am personally committing to preparing and delivering 150 meals every two days.
We need to get to 300 meals delivered each day for the length of the extra demand on our health system – at least three months. I can’t sustain this effort alone – and the point is we want our health workers to know this is coming from their community.
So please join me in thanking our health workers who are putting their lives on the line to take care of us. Sending them home with a safe, delicious and nutritious meal from their community each day will make a world of difference to them.
I hope you keep checking in here or on our social media pages to see how your support is making a difference!
Thank you in advance for your wonderful support.
